My colleague Toby Emert, professor of Theater at Agnes Scott College, and co-editor of The English Journal, invited me to create an illustration of “community” for the cover of the September 2019 issue.

The project allowed me to engage in a challenge of interpreting the theme of community using the iconographic “house” developed for my pertsonal work. It’s gratifying to connect across disciplines–in this case English and Visual Art–to fundamental concepts that I have worked with in order to derive meaning in my world, namely thhose of home, connection and relatedness through the symbol of house.
